Outlanders VFX is in the top 3 of my list of Visual Effects (VFX) studios where I would love to work. They may not be famous, but that’s part of their appeal. I see them as one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets for dedicated leadership that truly cares about employees, happy repeat clients, innovative workflows and opportunities to learn. They also have one of the biggest shared board game collections in studio the world may ever know.
A big thank you to Erik T. Jensen and Camil Adell Nogues from Outlanders for making time (90 minutes!) to chat with our Alpha Chromatica compositing students and answer their questions. After getting to know a little about every student, they provided insights into their workflow, including the use of cutting-edge tools like Unreal Engine and AI, and their approach to hiring and team building. They emphasized the importance of being proactive, passionate, and committed in advancing one’s career. Here’s one clip from the conversation:
In sharing their career journeys and combined experience as compositors, leads, supervisors, head of technology, and co-owners, Erik and Camil provided unique firsthand insights about career growth. Their focus on the importance of teamwork, adaptation, and tackling new challenges was truly inspiring. It’s clear that Outlanders is not just a place to work, but a community where creativity thrives. If you’re looking for a forward-thinking environment in the film industry, keep them on your radar!
After this talk, several of our students living in Vancouver (and two who flew in from other countries) were able to visit Outlanders and meet Erik and Camil in person. At Alpha Chromatica, we love connecting our students with extraordinary industry professionals who support the next generation of top talent.
