Thanks to Compositor Chris Thomassin for hopping on a call to talk with our ACE Compositing students. After working a variety of jobs in film, food, and farming in his native France and Australia, Chris moved to Vancouver to study VFX Compositing at Lost Boys | School of Visual Effects, where his teachers were Ganz Ramalingam and myself. Chris crafted an impressive demo reel and was hired by Distillery VFX, an Emmy Award Winning boutique Vancouver studio specializing in environments, FX, and compositing. He has been working there for nearly 4 years now on such projects as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Book of Boba Fett, Raised by Wolves, and The Last of Us.
By connecting with professional Compositors such as Chris working at high-end VFX studios like Distillery, our students gain additional insight into what skills they should focus on learning and demonstrating in their demo reels. We are so proud and happy for Chris, because he got the job that he wanted at a small studio doing big things that values individuals, personal growth, and close collaboration. Chris has set a high bar that all of our current students are aiming to match and surpass! I look forward to sharing their work with him when it’s ready, as we continue to learn from and appreciate the inspiring work by Distillery VFX.
